Studio Gallery is proud to present Joy Ride as part of The Bicycle Film Festival (BFF). The multimedia exhibition is a documentation of the emerging urban bike movement from artists around the world. Featuring both international and local artists, the exhibition has created an avenue for artists to show their love for the bicycle. Curated by Brendt Barbur (founding director of BFF), Joy Ride will be on display at Studio Gallery from June 19th, 2008 to June 22nd, 2008.

Joy Ride began in Los Angeles in 2005, and has traveled to Tokyo, London, New York, Paris, and now Toronto. The Toronto edition of Joy Ride includes artwork by international artists Michel Gondry, Phil Frost, Peter Sutherland, SWOON, and ESPO, as well as artwork from Toronto artists such as Team Macho, Ndeur, and Vladimir Kato.

The Bicycle Film Festival is a celebration of bicycles through art, music, and film. Now in its eighth year, the Festival began in New York in 2001 and has since grown to tour 17 cities worldwide. This is Toronto’s second year. In 2007, there were over 100,000 attendees worldwide. The Bicycle Film Festival has been credited with pushing bicycle culture forward throughout the world.

After being struck by a bus in New York City in 2000, founder Brendt Barbur was compelled to turn his negative experience into something positive. The festival has gained international recognition as the torchbearer of one of the largest cultural movements of this decade. The BFF and the bike community that hold it up are working to show that not only does bicycle riding bring people together, but it offers an environmentally sound form of transportation – the festival advocates the bike’s ability to transport us in many ways – ultimately, it’s all about having a good time.
